Contagious Literature: A Conversation

Me: …I have pleurisy.

Friend: What is pleurisy?

Me: It’s the swelling of the sacs around the lungs, it’s pretty painful.

Friend: You must’ve gotten it reading all those Brontë novels!

Me: Ha! …Oh crap, I was about to read some Poe!!

Friend: Better start getting people to pray you don’t get TB!

Literature contagious. “Blue roses,” I’m done for. Only some chapters left. Then, more like Helen at Lowood than Laura in The Glass Menagerie, the wasting disease will have me. Sigh. (Cough.)
