Book sharing

Bay of Pigs
Dad’s surprise gift.

Dad and I share an undying passion for reading. He’s actually a huge reason my nose is almost always buried in a book! He’s not much for phone conversations, though, and since we live on different ends of the country now, we rarely chat.

Lately he’s started emailing me about books, and sending me ones he’s finished.

I love it!

This evening he called and we chatted about Bay of Pigs and what he’s been up to in his retirement. He asked me if I had any books I wanted to trade and I was ecstatic!

I tore through my shelves and came up with these:

Of course Finn had to pose!

I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun talking about books… I’m more excited about reading than ever — who knew this was possible?! — and can’t wait to hear what Dad thinks about these favorites!

What a fantastic opportunity you and your dad have. I think the selections you chose for him are great. Bonhoeffer’s works speak to his life and back again. So there’s an element of universal relevancy in that. Heaney’s translation of Beowulf is dedicated and masterful, I think. I’m sure you chose the stack based on what your father likes and what you two will enjoy talking about. I have a friend and colleague who shares books with his father in this way. It’s become a wonderful working connection. Good luck!

How do you get your get your dog to look at the camera in such a precious way?

Dad and I just started doing this, but I think it’s going to be great!

I think Finn feels guilty for ripping up chunks of my carpet, so when I take a picture, he puts on a pretty good game face lol
