I Am Not Serial Killer

A few years ago, a friend introduced me to Dan Wells’ John Cleaver series: I Am Not a Serial Killer, Mr. Monster, and I Don’t Want to Kill You.

Very creepily modeled by my brother, who received this book from me as a Christmas present.

I read those three in about a week, but don’t be fooled by how easy they are to read. It is the perfect mix of horror, humor, and adolescent angst.  That’s right, this is teen lit. But it’s also categorized as horror, and adult thriller. I would say it’s a combination of all of this plus fantasy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this literary romp. Mr. Wells explores the inner workings of a young sociopath, John Wayne Cleaver, who is fighting against his own tendencies. His mother is a mortician and he regularly helps her with the family business. John is obsessed with serial killers, but is just as determined not to become one… and then a darkness, an evil invades his town and these somewhat resistible urges become harder and harder to hold at bay. Will he be able to fight the demon on the outside without unleashing the demon within? The only way to find out is to read the book!

I recently discovered that there are more books to this series: Check out the list on GoodReads.
